IN a recent episode of popular teen drama series Gossip Girl, one character worries if being grounded means no TV. Her brother quips back: “Who cares? Who actually watches TV on a television anymore?”

Adobe has announced plans to extend the Adobe Flash Platform into televisions, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players. It is expected that the first devices with the runtime will commence shipment in the second half of 2009.

Auto configuration of IPTV client devices can be categorized in two sub-categories; in-house developed configuration mechanisms and publicly available configuration systems.
Most of the IPTV devices deployed commercially don’t have standard device configuration methods. Usually, the solution provider uses in-house developed solutions about configuration mechanisms. The underlying technology for these in-house developed solutions is mostly XML. Configuration of the devices consists of transferring an XML configuration file/script to the client (set-top-box) and clients’ self configuration process. In order to operate smoothly with different types of IPTV deployments, client manufacturers must fine tune their configuration mechanism for each of the IPTV provider.
XML-RPC and RPC are also used in IPTV STB devices as a part of remote management and configuration. The configuration server triggers configuration mechanism or sends system management information to the client via RPC. The client then follows necessary operations to configure itself.
Comments rss TrackbackVodafone Group has revealed its intention to establish a research and development centre for IPTV and home entertainment products and services in Eschborn, a suburb of Frankfurt in west-central Germany, which will develop solutions for homes in all the countries in which Vodafone operates.
The company’s German division, which is the largest in the Vodafone group, will be a pilot market for the resulting home entertainment products and services, the company added. Broadband provider Arcor, which was acquired by Vodafone last year from Deutsche Bank and Deutsche Bahn, was hitherto headquartered in Eschborn. Friedrich Joussen, Chief Executive of Vodafone Germany, commented that the company is keeping to its promise to upgrade the Eschborn site once the Arcor takeover was completed.

The things they want to achieve can be and must be done much more earlier than 2012. Can you predict your broadband connection in year 2012? What about 3G? 4G?…
Technology does not permit you to make roadmaps with existing software that takes 3-4 years.. That were good old times..
